Toyota proudly presented the new generation of Land Cruiser. The new model from the 250 series, sometimes also called Prado, which will join the other two versions of the world-famous off-road vehicle, directly relies on the original qualities that have made its name synonymous with power and durability for more than seven decades. The legendary Land Cruiser genes are now enriched with new technologies, resulting in an even stronger reputation. The diverse experiences of buyers around the world have proved invaluable in developing the key strengths of the Land Cruiser, which has seen 11.3 million units sold to date.
The new model has retained the classic and robust construction with a chassis that traces its origins to the larger Land Cruiser 300, which is not available in Europe. Key to improving driving characteristics in off-road conditions, it simultaneously provides easy maneuverability and comfort on asphalt. The response to the driver’s commands has been improved and the control over the vehicle has been improved, for which, in addition to the suspension, the new electric power steering is also a credit. The electronic assistants from the Toyota Safety Sense package take care of safety, and the front stabilizer that can be turned off with a switch on the instrument panel helps in the field. The cameras give the driver a clear view of the area immediately around and below the vehicle.
Powertrains are different for each world region. There are both gasoline and hybrid, and for Europe only a 2.8-liter diesel with 204 horsepower, which will receive mild 48-volt hybrid support at the beginning of 2025. Paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission, it will be able to tow a load of up to 3,500 kilograms. The new Land Cruiser combines tradition and modern design in two different ways. The functional beauty is especially expressed in the First Edition retro edition, whose round lights give it an appearance that powerfully emphasizes the return to the roots.
Measuring 4,920×1,980×1,870 mm with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm, the cabin offers a choice of five- or seven-seat configurations. The interior design captures the power and practicality of this true off-road vehicle, evident in details such as the horizontally positioned instrument panel and switches shaped for easy operation even when driving on rough terrain. All-round visibility of the driver is prioritized by the low hood and deeper side windows.
Sales of the Land Cruiser in Europe will start from October, and the first deliveries are expected in the first half of 2024. The prices for the old continent are not known, and the new one starts at 55,000 dollars.
