After ten years of minor refreshes, the Japanese brand has finally unveiled the new flagship
The new image of Murano is finally here and its appearance is not surprising at all. It is in line with the electric Ariya and the new Qashqai, so it gives hope that, in addition to Americans, it will be offered to Europeans as well.
This theory is supported by several parameters that are integrated into the new model. First of all, the model that will go on sale in the first quarter of 2025. on the other side of the Atlantic it is based on the same basis as its predecessor, but the appearance of the exterior and interior has been radically changed, as well as the technology built into it.
The Murano now shares the front end design with the aforementioned models. The big smile on the front grille and slim LED lights are very similar to those of the Ariya, although here they are separated by a body-colored strip. However, his contour is much more interesting, with pronounced muscularity on the back arches.
The influence of Nissan’s new wave of design extends into the cabin as well. The already obligatory dual screens, each stretching to 12.3 inches, are in charge of the signature tasks. One, in front of the driver for vehicle and driving parameters, and the other for infotainment.
The latter supports wireless connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Google technology is built in and its services are standard. The spaciousness and convenience have already been confirmed by the previous model, but in the new one they have been raised to a higher level.
Some buyers won’t like Nissan’s bravery in ditching the Murano’s old 3.5-liter V6 in favor of a turbocharged two-liter four-cylinder. The new engine produces 244 hp, which is 19 hp less than the old V6. However, it has 27Nm more torque, for a total of 353Nm, so it’s likely to provide good driving performance, and it can tow a two-tonne trailer.
The good news is that the loud CVT transmission has been removed and its role taken over by a nine-speed automatic regardless of whether the version is front- or all-wheel drive. These specified parameters promise smooth city manners and dynamic behavior on the highway. Murano is not intended for off-road challenges, but it is far from behaving well off the asphalt.
The clearance has been increased by an additional 36 mm and now the ground clearance is 211 mm. Several streaks mean he’s more than capable of handling both environments. One of them is a “transparent hood”. It is based on a camera that allows the driver to see what is happening at the level of the front wheels when the situation does not allow the driver to have a view in front of the vehicle.
This useful assistant is already familiar to drivers of the new Qashqai. The technology is useful when crawling over rough terrain, but it’s also effective when parking. According to Nissan’s plans, the new Murano will be launched initially in the United States. Nothing has been said about a possible return to Europe, but it is quite certain that Murano will once again become a global model.
